Highnam Parish Council
New Settlement in the Churcham Locality Proposal
The Parish Council has very recently been made aware of a proposal put forward by the Forest of Dean District Council (FoDDC) for a new settlement of between 4,000 and 5,000 houses to be constructed to the west of the Highnam Roundabout between the A40 and A48 roads. Part of this site could fall within Highnam parish which itself stretches from the roundabout westwards to Beauchamp House.
At it’s meeting on 13 October the Council agreed to work collaboratively with Churcham, Huntley and Minsterworth Parish Councils to better understand what is proposed and to jointly engage in discussions with both FoDDC and Tewkesbury Borough Council to ensure the views and interests of all councils and current residents are properly represented. A Working Group of representatives drawn from the four councils is being established and Cllr Charlie Coats will lead on representing Highnam in this forum.
FoDDC’ s full council will consider this proposal at its meeting on 15 October. If supported it will then be subject to a comprehensive eight week period of consultation during which time the four councils will make their formal views on this proposal known.
The Parish Council will endeavour to provide residents with regular update briefings on this important initiative as it progresses.
